- Completing a household safety assessment and making recommendations
- Helping the senior follow a physician’s orders correctly to avoid re-admittance
Make the recovery process move as fast as possible and feel more comfortable by:
- Prepping the environment — removing tripping hazards, preparing a first-floor resting place if necessary, making sure there is adequate lighting to avoid falls
- Managing pain properly — comfortable positioning, well-fitting clothing, taking pain medication according to doctor instructions
- Encouraging rest — creating a calm environment, reassuring the senior that it’s okay to take the time they need to heal, not over exerting to avoid readmission
- Helping with daily tasks — monitoring the senior to avoid falls or injuries, lifting objects for them so surgical incisions can heal, feeding and personal care assistance
- Following doctor’s orders — taking or administering medications on time and correctly, completing or helping with doctor-ordered exercises
