A Place At Home started out of our founders’ own needs for support while navigating the uncertainty and anxiety of caring for aging loved ones. That’s why we’re so committed to providing excellent, consistent, and comprehensive at-home care.
From a young age, A Place At Home co-founders and childhood friends Dustin Distefano and Jerod Evanich had very strong relationships with their grandparents.
Dustin and his grandmother enjoy an exceptionally close bond. They experienced so much together, with him often staying the night at her house, going to hockey games with her, and enjoying her fried chicken. Eventually, Dustin grew up and moved out of state while his grandmother kept aging in place. To this day, she still lives comfortably at home.
At home care was something Dustin began exploring when his great-grandmother – who lived to 102 – found herself in an unhappy nursing home environment. It was evident that she didn’t want to be there. Dustin knew that it didn’t have to be that way, for his family or for any other senior in need of care.
Likewise, Jerod had a special relationship with both of his grandparents. Cherished time spent golfing, fishing, and camping with his grandfather was a foundational part of Jerod’s life. With so few family members living locally, Jerod saw firsthand how challenging senior care can be when caregiving responsibilities can’t be shared.
Dustin and Jerod created A Place At Home to deliver the same level of care they’d provide their grandparents to seniors nationwide. They knew that the at home care system needed to be better and created services that worked for families just like theirs. A Place At Home’s focus on compassion and service helps us fulfill our founders’ mission: keeping seniors – and all of their loved ones – safe and happy at home.
