Community Liaison, Chris Cummings, had an event-packed May with fun and informational events at senior communities around the Metro area as well as hosting a booth at a local health fair. Here are some of the highlights from our around town, always smiling, Chris.
April Showers Bring May Flowers
Chris enjoyed the company of 20+ seniors at her annual April Showers Bring May Flowers event. This wine and cheese crazy hat party is always a hit. Seniors were encouraged to wear a crazy hat and enjoy time sharing some information about themselves. Some of the fun questions that were asked and answered were: When was your first date? When and where was your first kiss? What was your first job? Are you a saver or a spender?
Betty won the crazy hat contest with her homemade hat and was presented with a gift basket containing all sorts of goodies.
Kentucky Derby Event
Papillion Manor residents were treated to a fun afternoon enjoying each other’s company and learning about Kentucky Derby history while wearing their best Kentucky Derby hat. This is another annual event that Chris loves to have with seniors, and the seniors love it too!
Here's some fun Kentucky Derby trivia:
- The Kentucky Derby is the longest sporting event in the United States, dating back to 1875.
- Aristides was the name of the American Thoroughbred that won the first race.
- The original length of the race was 1 1/2 miles, and changed to 1 1/4 miles in 1896
- The Derby has been broadcasted on television since 2001.
- The official beverage of the race is the mint julep.
- The 2017 winner of the Derby was a horse named Always Dreaming.
Council Bluffs was the location of the annual Health Fair that features wellness exhibitors, screenings and hands-on activities to promote healthy living for people age 50 and older. A Place at Home representatives, Chris Cummings and Cindy Kohll Persky, APH’s Senior Living Advisor, hosted a booth to share information about the continuum of care services our company offers to seniors to help them through all stages of the aging process. It was a great opportunity to meet seniors and families from around the area.
Overall, it was a great month of May and we look forward to the many events we will be involved with in the months to come!
