About Our at Home Care Services

A Place At Home started out of our founders’ own needs for support while navigating the uncertainty and anxiety of caring for aging loved ones. That’s why we’re so committed to providing excellent, consistent, and comprehensive at-home care to families throughout the Lafayette area, including Opelousas, Youngsville, and the surrounding communities.

Meet Our Owner

Larry Thomas

Larry Thomas

Owner

Before enlisting in the United States Army in 1977, as a teenager, occasionally Larry willingly cared for his brother, quadriplegic from an offshore injury, later passing away due to those injuries. Before opening A Place At Home – Lafayette, he served over 40 years in leadership roles, including 15 years in the military.

Larry is the youngest sibling of 17 brothers and sisters. Hence, now his siblings are elder, he continues to personally experience first-hand the amazing compassion of caregivers, particularly from immediate family members. During his recent retirement years, he genuinely provided spiritual guidance, praying alongside an older sister’s journey of aging up through the time hospice stepped in, providing her comfort medically. His strong faith helped his family during a wearisome time.

As a veteran, Larry currently serves the local Honor Guard, is a lifetime member of VFW, Veteran of Foreign Wars, and also serves community needs, and fundraisers, including a trustee of church obligations.

The philosophy of “We are CARE” became an easy choice for Larry and his wife Charletta to open up the first in the state of Louisiana, A Place At Home – Lafayette. “We would be honored to serve you and your family’s aging journey needs; there is no place like home, your home!”

Charletta Thomas

Charletta Thomas

Owner

Through 40 years of experience mentoring and leading teams to exceptional operations in the banking and QSR hospitality industry, Charletta and her husband Larry agreed to open A Place At Home – Lafayette. She is a native of the community, very involved and committed to the Acadiana area, impacting lives as an ambassador of continuing education, and philanthropic efforts, especially Second Harvest Food Bank.

Her devotion to family has impacted her life with an elder sister of 20 years. Her sister lived with her and her husband for over a decade until her aging journey due to severe falls causing her to transition into a nursing home facility in March 2020, during the Covid-19 pandemic. With a servant’s heart Charletta is dedicated to making a difference by being part of A Place At Home – Lafayette where she will assist seniors aging in place with dignity and grace.

Charletta’s role will include recruitment and retention, facilitating a culture of “We are CARE” to the team of caregivers and office staff.
