Non-Medical Home Care Services in East Brunswick

A Place At Home – East Brunswick provides non-medical home care designed to help seniors live safely and comfortably at home, with support for the everyday needs that fall outside skilled medical treatment.

Our approach starts with a conversation. We sit down with the senior and their family, walk through the home, and talk openly about what is working, what has become difficult, and where a little extra support could make life easier. From there, we develop an individualized care plan based on those needs and priorities. Once you and your loved one approve the plan, we match you with a caregiver and get started. You remain in control throughout the process, nothing is put in place without your understanding and approval.

Free In-Home Assessment

If you want to know whether home care makes sense for your family, start with a free in-home consultation. A care coordinator comes to the house, spends real time with your loved one, and assesses what they need day to day, not just medically, but practically and socially. From there we put together a care plan and a schedule that fits your family and match a caregiver whose experience and personality suits your loved one.

There is no cost for the assessment and no obligation afterward. Plenty of families use it just to find out what their options are.

We Are CARE

Everything we do runs through four values. Every caregiver who works for us is expected to be:

  • Compassionate
  • Accountable
  • Respectful
  • Ethical

Our mission is to be passionate professionals providing the compassionate care you need, where and when you need us.

Caring for a parent is hard in a way that is difficult to explain to anyone who has not done it. You love them, but you are exhausted. A Place At Home – East Brunswick helps families in this area have somewhere reliable to turn, so the hours you spend with your mother can be spent as her daughter instead of her nurse.

Questions East Brunswick Families Ask Us Most

What is the difference between a registered home care agency and a nurse registry in New Jersey?

This is the question most families do not know to ask, and it matters. Some in-home care providers operate as registries that refer independent caregivers to you. In that arrangement the caregiver is essentially self-employed, and the responsibility for managing them, and often the liability if something goes wrong in the home, lands on your family. We are a registered Health Care Service Firm and we employ our caregivers directly. We handle vetting, training, supervision, insurance, and scheduling. You are hiring an agency to be accountable for the care, which is different from being handed a phone number.

Do you only serve East Brunswick, or the surrounding towns too?

We serve East Brunswick and the communities around it, including Milltown, Helmetta, Spotswood, South River, Old Bridge, Sayreville, Parlin, South Amboy, Matawan, and Cliffwood. Most of our caregivers live in this part of Middlesex County, which means shorter drives, better reliability in bad weather, and caregivers who know where the pharmacy on Route 18 is without being told. If you are not sure whether your street falls in our coverage area, just call and we will tell you straight.

Does Medicare pay for non-medical home care in New Jersey?

Usually not. Medicare covers intermittent skilled home health services when a doctor orders them and specific conditions are met, but it generally does not pay for ongoing personal care, companionship, or homemaking which is the type of care most families come to us for. Families typically pay privately, use a long-term care insurance policy, or draw on VA benefits. Some seniors qualify for New Jersey Medicaid programs that cover personal care. We are happy to walk through your situation and explain what we see, and the Middlesex County Office of Aging and Disabled Services can screen your loved one for county, state, and federal programs at 732-745-3295.

What happens if our regular caregiver is sick or unavailable?

We plan for it up front. When we build a care team, we make sure more than one caregiver knows your loved one’s routine, preferences, and personality. So if the regular caregiver wakes up with the flu, we are not sending a stranger into your mother’s kitchen on two hours’ notice. The backup already knows her, and she already knows the backup.

Is home care only for seniors with serious medical conditions?

Not at all. Some of the most valuable work we do is for seniors who are medically fine but isolated, or who have quietly stopped doing things, cooking real meals, going to the library, keeping up with the laundry, because it all got to be too much. A caregiver who drives your father to his appointments, sits with him at lunch, and makes sure there is dinner in the evening is not a medical intervention. It is a quality-of-life decision. You do not need a diagnosis or a doctor’s order to call us.

How do you match a caregiver to my loved one?

We do not assign whoever happens to be free. Before anyone is placed, we learn about your loved one as a person: their routine, their temperament, whether they want quiet company or a talker, what language they are most comfortable in, how they like their kitchen organized, what they will absolutely refuse to do. Then we match on compatibility as much as on qualification. A technically excellent caregiver who is the wrong personality fit will not last, and we have learned that the hard way. Getting the match right at the start is one of the most important things we do.

Can you provide care in an assisted living facility or a hospital, not just at home?

Yes. We provide care wherever your loved one is such as private homes across East Brunswick and Middlesex County, assisted living residences, independent living communities, rehab facilities, and hospital rooms when a family wants someone at the bedside during a stay.

Why East Brunswick Families Trust A Place At Home

In New Jersey, any agency providing non-medical home care to older adults must be registered as a Health Care Service Firm with the New Jersey Division of Consumer Affairs. That registration is not a formality. It requires a $50,000 surety bond, written policies for client care and complaint handling, liability insurance, and a designated New Jersey licensed registered nurse or physician as health care practitioner supervisor. Ask any agency you are considering for their registration number and verify it with the state.

Our home health aides hold Certified Homemaker-Home Health Aide (CHHA) certification through the New Jersey Board of Nursing, and every caregiver clears a criminal background check with state fingerprinting before entering a client’s home. We employ our caregivers directly rather than referring contractors, which means their training, supervision, and insurance are our responsibility, not yours.

When you call us, a person answers. If you reach out through the website instead, you will get a call back within the hour during business hours. When a family is trying to arrange care for a parent who was discharged this morning, waiting until Monday is not an option.

We are also part of a national network. A Place At Home has been recognized by Franchise Business Review among the highest-satisfaction home care franchises in the country, and locations across the network have earned Best of Home Care awards from Home Care Pulse, the industry’s leading independent satisfaction research program. That is the standard we brought with us to East Brunswick.
