This Veterans Day, Mike and Madeline, owners of A Place At Home Carrollton, were honored to spend the day giving back to those who gave so much. Together with other community volunteers, they helped serve local veterans at the Senior Center in Carrollton, sharing food, conversation, and heartfelt appreciation.
For Mike and Madeline, Veterans Day is more than a date on the calendar. Many of the seniors they care for have served in the armed forces, or have spouses and loved ones who did. Being able to honor that sacrifice in a personal, face to face way reflects the heart behind their work as senior care providers.
Serving Those Who Served Us
The event at the Senior Center brought together veterans of different ages and branches of service. Some wore hats proudly displaying their branch or the conflict they served in, while others simply came for a warm meal and connection.

Mike and Madeline joined staff and volunteers in serving lunch, helping veterans find seats, and making sure everyone felt welcome and valued. Small gestures such as offering a plate, refilling a drink, or helping someone to their table became simple but meaningful ways to say “thank you for your service.”
Moments of Connection
Beyond the food and festivities, the day was filled with stories. Veterans shared memories of their time in the service, the friendships they formed, and the challenges they faced when returning home.
Mike and Madeline listened, laughed, and sometimes teared up right alongside them. These conversations are a powerful reminder that behind every uniform is a person with a lifetime of experiences, someone’s parent, grandparent, neighbor, or friend.
For many older veterans, loneliness can be as challenging as any physical health concern. Events like this help bridge that gap by bringing companionship, community, and recognition to those who may not always receive it in their day to day lives.
A Reflection of Our Mission
Volunteering at the Senior Center on Veterans Day aligns closely with A Place At Home Carrollton’s mission to provide compassionate, dignified care that honors each person’s life story.
Many of the veterans served at the event are the same individuals who may one day need assistance at home, whether with everyday tasks, companionship, or more specialized care. Showing up for them today is part of building trust for tomorrow.
Mike and Madeline believe that senior care is about more than services. It is about relationships, respect, and community. Taking time out of their holiday to serve is just one way they live those values beyond the walls of their clients’ homes.
