Every member of our management team has had experience with loved ones who have struggled with the health issues of aging and the difficulty of navigating the healthcare system.
A grandmother who ran away from the nursing home because she wanted to be in her own home, the family that wanted to give their loved one a better quality of life but was constrained by finances, attempts to care for a parent with dementia—these are all concerns that have been experienced personally by our management team.
Our personal experiences and our desire to help other families facing similar issues led to the creation of A Place at Home.
Dustin Distefano, CEO
From his very first job in high school with a large grocery chain, Dustin discovered how much he enjoyed working in a service industry that required extensive interaction with customers. After receiving his BS in Criminal Justice from the University of Nebraska at Lincoln, he worked for Enterprise Holdings as a Branch Manager where he was repeatedly recognized for his impeccable service levels and management style. He later received his Certified Nursing Assistant certification from Clarkson College, and began working as a recruiter for a national company identifying and placing qualified nurses with quality hospitals.
His work with healthcare professionals, understanding how service should be provided and his personal experiences with many of the elderly women in his family persuaded Dustin to become part of the healthcare solution. He has made a commitment to improving the quality of care and its access for seniors by offering more than just the traditional options.
Jerod Evanich, President
Jerod holds a BS in Business Administration in General Management and Small Business Management as well as Certified Nursing Assistant certification. His entrepreneurial spirit has always been active. He started with a vegetable stand in elementary school and later became a successful Real Estate Agent owning a team that was awarded the multi-million dollar producer and Leading Edge Society Award.
Jerod believes that building relationships through quality time with loved ones is one of the most important keys to one’s happiness. After experiencing the changes in his grandparent’s health and witnessing gaps and voids in the healthcare system, he decided to parlay his professional and personal successes into helping seniors. His goal is to provide seniors the option to stay in their homes by providing access to quality care and healthcare advocacy.
Paula Howard, Chief Nursing Officer
Some might say that caring is in Paula’s blood. With a BSN and RN from the University of Connecticut School of Nursing, a master’s degree in health promotion from Methodist Hospital and a Certified Health Minister certificate from Alegent Hospital, Paula has built her life around nurturing and advocating for patients.
When she looks back on her years as a Student Nursing Aid when caregivers were able to talk to patients to calm them and provide backrubs to help them get a good night’s sleep, she realizes that although there have been many significant advances in medicine, the time needed to document everything has left little time for TLC. This realization and her experiences with family and friends for whom she acted as advocate, care coordinator, caregiver and assistant with end of life wishes, led Paula to develop a company called My Concierge Nurses. This company later merged with A Place at Home to offer comprehensive healthcare advocacy and in-home care services.
Her efforts have led to repeated successful life improvement outcomes for her clients. When she hears comments such as "you are a gem" and "you saved my life," she knows that her dedication has been worthwhile.
A Place at Home has been in business since August 2012. The owners of A Place at Home created the company with one goal in mind: "Provide Passionate Professionals and Compassionate Care to all those in need of care at home." Over the years, A Place at Home has grown from 3 employees to over 100 and services over 100 clients each month. The managers feel this was all made possible by the goal they set at inception.
